Saturday–a very hot day in NYC.

Today we had Matt and Samantha (our friends who convinced us to move all the way over here from California) over this evening for the first time to our new place. Since it’s about a mile from their place, they decided to take a cab, which, under the circumstances was probably a good idea. Let me explain. Today, New York City broke the all-time power consumption record because of the massive heat-wave that is making this city a miserable place to be right now. Outside it reached temperatures of 100 degrees with, oh, about 85% humidity or so. And, of all things, it even decided to rain today–it was cloudy most of the day, so I don’t even want to think about how hot it would have been in the direct sunlight. Whew! Anyway, back to our evening… we had a delicious dinner that Candice prepared from scratch–Mexican Rice, Beans, and Enchiladas. Then we watched Ocean’s Twelve, which was alright. I’m sweating up a storm right now just sitting at the computer, even though it’s midnight, it still hasn’t cooled down much. ::sigh:: I can’t wait until Autumn…

network plus what?

Well, I’m proud to announce that I am now a Network+ Certified Technician. I took my test this morning at this place not too far from where we live (on the train, that is.) I should be getting my printed certificate in the mail in a couple weeks. Now I just need to update my resume… Next, I’m probably going to be trying to tackle a Cisco certification.

We’ve been cleaning up the house a bit because Matt and Samantha are coming over to visit tomorrow. It’s still really hot and humid over here–I really can’t wait until it cools down a bit in August. Not much else new to report on, unfortunately.

networking.

I’m signed up to take my Network+ certification exam tomorrow (Friday, Aug 12.) I should have actually taken it a long time ago, but I just never got around to it. Hopefully having that certification will help me a little in my job hunt. Today we’re going to take Jabba over to Lorrie’s where he can play with the other dogs. (I think sometimes he gets bored around here.) More job hunting on the way today… and some laundry too. Yipee!

bare walls

soooo……you know what i don’t like? bare walls, unless, of course, they have a thing going, but our don’t. they have a naked look about them. i’ve been looking on allposters.com for something to put on them, once i find a job, that is. this one is called ‘vive l’amour’ by some guy i’ve never heard of. i thought it would go nicely in the entryway. this one is called ‘vampire’ by edvard munch. i like the dark crayon-like black in it. this is probably the one i am least likely to buy. no particular reason, but it doesn’t strike me as much as the others. this one is called ‘neuschwanstein’ by andy warhol, obviously. i’m not a huge fan of warhol, but, for some reason, i really like this one. it reminds me of some flashy scene in a 70’s movie mixed with the opening sequence in ‘the shinning.’ this one is ‘reclining nude’ by amedeo modigliani. i never thought i would actually want to buy a nude painting. i admire them in museums and books, but i never thought i’d buy one. for some reason i think this one is so great, with the well-defined lines and use of color. this one is ‘kunstler and his wife’ by marc chagall. i love the heaviness of this one, with the dark, swirly, misty stuff goin’ on. this last one i totally love. it’s called ‘les amants’ by rene magritte. don’t ask me, i just love it.

yup…those are the ‘for sure’ pictures i’m going to hang. they all strike enough of a cord with me that i would like to look at them every day.

on another note, i’m back on raw, after the weekend! i missed it too much to stay away. cooked food kept making me feel gross. i never feel gross when i eat raw. yesterday i made raw apple cobbler and raw key lime pie. yum! 🙂

switching subjects again…i can’t believe i’m actually going to apply at barnes & noble. i’ve always sorta been wary of them. maybe it’s the starbucks. maybe it’s the hugeness. -shrug- i dunno. but *i need a job!* 😉

rats.

Maybe we should have moved to New Jersey or something… unfortunately, the people who seem to think my skills are a match for their company are too far away for me to get to. This latest one today is in Wall, NJ. And as you can see from this Map here, it is a tad out of the way.. about 70 miles or so. double rats.

I found this web site a while ago, and now I can actually use it since I moved to a big city. You sign up for it and enter in the names and addresses of places that you go or hang out at. When you arrive or are going to a certain place, you send them a short text message, and then they automatically send a text message to all your friends (who are signed up) telling them to meet you there at a certain time. Check it out: dodgeball.com

uneventful. well, sort of.

Not having a job is really getting old. I had a telephone interview today and I had another guy call me and request a copy of my resume. The rest of the day I spent hitting craigslist for new leads. Pretty boring, really. Candice and I are slowly putting this place together though. Hopefully, the rest of our stuff will arrive this week and we can eventually stop living out of boxes. And, maybe, just maybe, we might even post some more pictures of the progress soon. Stay Tuned..

Has anybody been to this web site.? Kinda interesting–every day they have one ‘overstock’ item that they sell for (most of the time) waaayy below retail. You really never know what they’ll have next. Check ’em out: woot.com

Well. I’m back, safe and sound in NYC. I missed Candice very much and I’m glad to be back to our new place with my wife and puppy. I hope Kit and Jakki are having a nice time on their trip to the Mediterranean. Who knows.. they might even update their blog while their away.
