konnichiha!

August 2, 2007 - 11:07 am Comments Off on konnichiha!

3 years ago, when eric and i were living in angwin, we would spend weekends going geocaching. we even let loose on the world a “travel bug”, a numbered tag attached to a toy. when another geocacher finds a travel bug, they use the number to look it up online. each travel bug has destinations that you give it, or little agendas, and you then help it on it’s quest.

well…..we made a little travel bug called kitty! her goal was to get to japan and be taken to sanrio puroland, then be trekked back home. 3 years later, she finally made it to japan! ๐Ÿ˜€ woohoo! now all she has to do is get to puroland! yay! way to go kitty!

the summer slump

alright already! here’s a post just so you don’t have to read “camping debacle” every time you load our page! ๐Ÿ™‚

either eric or myself will be posting a real post soon…hopefully one with pictures of our pups and garden, etc.

here’s a quick recap:

for the 4th of july we bbq-ed some grillers and corn and had tasty watermelon before going to the mediocre fireworks show here in town. given our proximity to wyoming, there were LOTS of GIANT fireworks going off all around town and in our neighborhood. and we were guilty of phoning the coppers when we witnessed roman candles being aimed at cars and houses just down the street.

our garden is producing lots of giant yellow squash, a few tomatos, and the beets are growing quite nicely. our lone pumpkin plant is thriving and will hopefully produce some offspring for us to butcher at halloween.

that’s been about it around these parts. it’s been too hot to go hiking lately, which is a big bummer. and tonight i’m going to brave the hordes of screaming kids at the borders harry potter party to nab myself a copy, assuming they won’t sell out (but given that this is longmont, i think i have a good chance). don’t get me wrong, i wish i could go and dress up and play games, but a lone adult amongst children might be looked at a bit askance.

toodles for now!

camping debacle

::singing:: we’re goin’ campin’ now, we’re on our way! we’re gonna climb up a mountain and run and jump and play! ::/singing::

at least that’s what we thought we were going to do. the pugs wanted to show eric some appreciation for father’s day, so i planned a camping trip for this past weekend, on short notice, mind you. i tried to get reservations for a few campgrounds in rocky mountain national park, but it was all booked up, not surprising since this was wednesday. ๐Ÿ˜‰ i found a little campground several miles out of estes park that had a few vacancies, so i got us a site there. it looked cute on the website, i swear!
after the hustle and bustle of packing and getting sally subi back from midas (needed new brakes….bleh!) we hit the road with visions of campfires and mountain lakes and that proverbial “rocky mountain high.”

our dreams were cut a little short. as soon as we arrived in camp it was glaringly apparent that this wasn’t a secluded and rugged campground. there were lots of people in a small space surrounded by vacation homes, and most horribly–civilization. ๐Ÿ™ our camp site, which we didn’t get to pick out, was roughly the size of our living room and kitchen combined, and had VERY close neighbors on both sides, a fence behind us, and somebody’s vacation home within yards.

we attempted to make the best of it, and enjoyed cooking outside and having a campfire. sally subi provided the accommodations, and i must say, they were quite comfy. the dogs enjoyed themselves immensely by rolling around in the dirt and lounging in the grass and barking at passerby (which there were many of). however, we ended up coming home a day early, due to the whole close neighbors/ugly/nothing to do nature of the place.

even though we were sorely disappointed in the campground we still had a nice little time. ๐Ÿ™‚ but we’ve learned our lesson. next time we’re going somewhere with actual wilderness around and wildlife. i say it’s not camping unless there are pit toilets (or none)!

so check out the album by clicking on the picture below!

nothin’ much

spurred along by eric’s shoutbox comment, i have decided to share just how mundane we’ve been as of late.

we went thrift shopping this last weekend where i was able to add to my quirky mug collection, my drinkin’ mug collection (canning jars with handles), and some various other small items.

several hours were spent pulling weeds and baking in the sun after receiving a ‘weed warning’ from our hoa.

quality time was spent with our crazy dogs. leia is becoming a very fast runner and has also acquired several football moves to keep toys away from jabba. she says she wants to be a cage-fighter ‘somewhere in northern alberta’ when she grows up. jabba was unavailable for comment.

we watched ‘red dragon’, ‘hannibal’, and ‘hannibal rising’ over the last couple days. fun times….we also watched ‘manhunter’, the 80’s moving (staring a young ‘gil grisom’ from csi!) that was an older version of ‘red dragon’. it was alright. ::shrug:: now i want to read the books.

and i saw ‘pirates of the caribbean: at world’s end’ yesterday. it would have been better without so much crazy ‘duh duh duh dun dun dun’ music and i didn’t like the big cgi scenes, and what the frack was that guitar solo about? might have been better if it weren’t so overblown-disney-ish, but then again, that’s part of the appeal (along with depp, of course).

so there you have it. ๐Ÿ˜€

holiday! celebrate!

May 29, 2007 - 3:23 pm 1 Comment

since we took a holiday……took some time to celebrate…..just one day out of life…..it was…it was so nice!

sorry, enough with the madonna…..

since it was indeed a holiday weekend, that meant fun stuff to do in boulder. eric and i went to the boulder creek festival in boulder (duh) and had quite a bit of fun. eric kept calling it a ‘fair’, but i kept telling him it was a ‘festival’ because there was music and the focus wasn’t on carnival rides or livestock (and, btw, i can’t wait for the boulder county fair!). anyhoo…

the festival followed the boulder creek on both sides and included lots of booths with arts and crafts, free stuff, entertainment, etc. there was a lot to do! although, truth be told, eric and i enjoyed the free stuff the most! man, we made out like fat rats, caching in on all the free organic health food being handed out. there was also live music and lots of tasty food to be had. eric had veggie indian food and i had a mini mozzarella pizza cooked right in front of me in a little portable ‘brick’ oven.

once we were there we wished leia were old enough to come with us. they both would have had fun. there were lots of other pugs there, as well as other friendly doggies (although nothing quite compares to a gaggle of puggies).

i would wax more eloquent, but i’ve spent the last hour resizing photos for the album and that makes me grumpy. ๐Ÿ™‚

here’s a clip of our lunch entertainment…she was good…i love singer-songwriter/folk music. (note: the warbliness is due to my camera, not the performer)

and take a look at the small album i added, with pics of the events and our bags of free goodies! plus, there are some nice pictures of eric’s daily commute, the road we took to boulder.

we’re also looking forward to the outdoor films shown in the summer here in boulder. come to think of it, the more time we spend here, the more we like it here! it’s pretty, there’s mountains, there’s fun stuff to do and there’s a wide variety of people! ๐Ÿ˜€ what more could we ask for? well, besides the ocean….hehe
