Hello all. This is Eric, posting to you on another sleepless Sunday night. I’m uploading some more pictures of Arthur to his gallery, which you can findΓΒ here.ΓΒ Arthur is now a month old. He’s going in for his one-month checkup this week, and has been a lot more active recently. He likes to look at the lights in the kitchen when he is sitting in his swing or being held by Candice or me. Other than that, he mostly does what newborns do… eat, sleep, and poop. π I’m going to try to get some rest now; it’s been a long day. ttfn.
3 Weeks with no posts!?
sleepy greetings!
well, apologies for not including a picture with this post, i have assigned picture duty to eric for now. π
in my last short post i briefly mentioned arthur’s surprise arrival, but didn’t go into details. to make a long story kinda short, it was indeed a surprise! after watching “LOST” last thursday and going to bed at my usual 9 o’clock, i woke up at 2.30 to what can best be described as a warm gush. hehe π after convincing eric that we had to go to the hospital right away, we jumped in the car, leaving the pups wondering what the heck was going on! once we were at the hospital i got my first ever wheel chair ride, it was pretty fun! by the time i got to the triage room at the birth center, my contractions were pretty close together. at this point eric still thought they’d send us home (hah), but that changed when they made him put on scrubs, called the doctor, put an IV in me (first one ever!), and got me prepped for surgery. π the heavy contractions also helped to convince him. π
so by the time i rolled into the OR at 4.30, i was very, VERY ready to see the anesthesiologist’s smiling face, holding up a needle. let me stress “VERY” several more times. his forceful kicks upon my pelvis and ‘nether regions’ during the contractions certainly didn’t help. and let me just say ‘frack you’ to controlled breathing and meditation. π anyhoo…..after lots of weird pulling and pushing feelings, the dr. getting arthur out, i heard the phrase ‘oh! it’s a boy!’ π eric got to go over to the warming lamp that was 3 feet from my head and take pictures and cut the cord, too. i stayed in the OR to get sewed up (and get some pleasant happy drugs) while eric followed arthur into the recovery room.
that’s about it for the exciting “story” parts! π from there i got to go to what would be my room for 4 days (3 nights). they decided to keep arthur in the nursery for the duration of our stay to monitor him and various other things, so eric was able to come home to the pups for the night, while i stayed at the hospital.
and let me just say that i couldn’t have asked for a better hospital to have arthur at. everything was so nice! my mom and al, when they arrived from CA on sunday) kept joking that i was at a 4-star hotel. my room had cable, a dvd player, wifi, a big room service menu, and lots of other stuff. and the nurses were really nice and helpful. as were the nurses i met in the nursery when i would go visit arthur. π
and so both my dr. and arthur’s dr. said we were ready to come home on monday! wednesday was his first dr.’s visit, too.
anyhoo….as you can imagine, both eric and i are pretty tired, we’re still adjusting to arthur’s schedule. π and i have 1 more week before i’m allowed to do light housework, like cooking and laundry, and driving, so we’re both very grateful that my mom and al are here to help out, er, do the majority of everything i should say. π
and the pups are behaving themselves very well, too! they have their cousin mickey here to play all day with and at night jabba and leia like to sit and watch us with arthur. well, leia watches like a little nurse, jabba just says ‘i’m too old for this’ and buries his head in his nuzzle-nest. π
and more apologies if this story is disjointed or missing parts! i managed to take a nap and am still groggy. π so there ya go! a short version of last week’s events!
happy birthday arthur!
kinda tired to type much now. π
yesterday morning brought the surprise arrival of arthur padraig perez! (we’re finally set on the middle name spelling, just so ya know ;)) very early in the morning, i might add….
if you’d like to see our little guy, you can go here. no graphic pics, don’t worry!
kinda tired! gotta run!
fun times
hi hi
yes, as eric mentioned, the photos of our surprise baby shower are indeed up in our gallery. i have yet to retrieve the pics of the weekend from my camera, so there are no pics in this post. π i’m sorry! i promise to do it SOON! SOON!
our fun weekend started off with a trek out to DIA to pick up amanda on friday afternoon, after another OB appointment. thanks to the wonders of technology, eric was able to work from home, and the car, so he could accompany me on both excursions. after retrieving amanda from the trolly-maze at the airport, we whisked her back to our place, where the puppies greeted her with much barking and enthusiastic tail wagging (think of a moving cinnamon bun). π
the next day we met a very tired james and cheryl at their hotel before popping out for lunch at sunflower in boulder. the masons were fairly exhausted, having arrived at their hotel around 4 that morning, but were good troopers, as was amanda, who was suffering from a touch of elevation sickness. the trip to boulder also included a stop at tee and cakes, where i snagged myself a red velvet cupper (my cuppers are better, their frosting is better), and cheryl got a beverage and a tasty brownie. that evening we played some pretty fun wii games, chilled, and all retired early.
sunday was fun, too. we again opted to chow down in boulder, this time at ruby’s, a diner located in the 29th st. mall. and what trip to the mall would be complete without a little shopping? anyhoo….after shopping we headed home, where the boys had prepared (and decorated, i might add) my surprise shower! how fun! π and the rest of the story you can surmise from the pictures eric uploaded and linked to in his previous post. π it was lots of fun and a big surprise! i was completely happy just being able to see some friends!
on monday eric and i decided that amanda, cheryl, and james needed to see the rocky mountains up close before they left, so we drove up to estes park and walked around a bit, and made a pit stop by the stanley hotel. the trip didn’t last long, mostly due to the fact that lunch was fast approaching, and it was on the chilly and windy side.
unfortunately, monday was also the day we bid farewell to amanda. we hope she had fun! π and thank you ryan for sharing her with us for a little bit! π james and cheryl were able to stick around ’till the next day, when they, too, had to jet off for the airport (in their VERY snazzy rental car…..a prius! i am smitten!).
thanks guys! we really enjoyed your visit, and the fun shower! it was very sweet of them! and thank you to all who were able to tune in!
one other thing to mention….i’ve gotten several requests to clarify what exactly a ‘diaper service’ is. here goes! π
for various environmental, health, and moral reasons, eric and i have decided to use cloth diapers. now, normally when you use cloth diapers, the ‘fun stuff’ goes where it belongs (cue potty and the waste management facility), and the diaper itself gets washed. so, to make things even easier, there are diaper services. every week they leave a (cloth) bag on your door with a whole weeks supply of high quality, clean, cloth diapers. at the end of the week you leave out for them a (provided) pail full of smelly, dirty diapers that they take and professionally clean. the diaper service we have registered with, the changing table, is pretty cool. their delivery truck runs on biodiesel, and they offer all sorts of cute diaper covers (the cover that goes over the cloth diaper).
soooo…….on our diaper registry you can purchase us weeks of cloth diaper service, super cute diaper covers, various items needed for cloth diapering such as snappies (the safety pin alternative), natural baby products, and a few ‘seventh generation’ products like wipes and disposables (for traveling). all of which are nicely listed out here, at our registry list. from there you just email or call the company (they are very nice) and tell them what you would like to purchase from our (candice and eric p****’s) registry. π
speaking of diapering, i added some ‘seventh generation’ items to our wishlist.com list, too. bulk items.
PHEW! i hope that cleared things up a bit! π now i’m going to go enjoy the snow we got today!
Virtual Baby Shower
As many of you who attended know, a few of Candice’s friends flew out here to visit us and threw her a baby shower. Thanks to the wonders of technology, we were able to broadcast it live over the Internet with video, audio, and chat using Yahoo’s new ‘Live’ service that lets anybody with a microphone and camera send images and sound over the net. We’re going to try to do the same thing when our little guy is born, so everyone can see him. Here is a link to some of the pictures that were taken during the baby shower:
I’m sure Candice will do a full write-up in the near future, but I just wanted to get these out there ASAP.
candice again
yes yes, it’s me again. i don’t know why eric isn’t posting more! maybe it’s video games.
nothing big went down this weekend, nobody won the lottery or anything. let’s see….we went to a thrift store to donate some things like leia’s old, pink doggy purse and crate, and to shop. here’s what i found:
a cool bud vase, little container, and a super awesome owl woodcarving

we also worked some more on the basement. well, eric did, i helped some, but i’m not as spry as i once was.
oh! big news! our travel bug, kitty, finally made it to her destination, sanrio puroland in japan! π here are the pictures from her adventure at the park.

hm….whaaaaaaat eeeeelse…….oh, both eric and i are very upset (read: pissed off) that we aren’t able to vote for the primaries tomorrow because we’re registered independents. which is totally lame. plus our state doesn’t have primaries, it has a caucus instead. i guess they switched in 2000 to save money. pft! laaaaame-ooo…..if i had known that i wouldn’t be able to vote this time, i probably would have re-registered as a dem. anyhoo…….
in other news, we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our friends, amanda and cheryl and james, this coming friday. i’m crossing my fingers that some of this snow we’re getting today will stick around ’til then.
toodles!
ho hum
things have been a little ho hum around here…..all our snow is melted and we’re waiting for more! more! more! everything goes dormant here in the winter, and it really livens things up when it’s all pretty and snowy.
i just got back from my 8 month doctor’s appointment. not much new to tell! i’ve got to pick our pediatrician soon, and pre-register at the hospital, those are the top two items on my to-do list. oh, and i get to go to the doctor’s every other week now, then for the next month, every week. i’m starting to get uncomfortable a lot now, so thank goodness there’s only 8 more weeks left! π here’s a pic eric snapped of me last weekend in the basement…it *kinda* shows my tummy….let’s just say it’s flattering….

in other news, we’re going to get visitors! hooray! amanda and james and cheryl are going to pay us a little visit next month. π the pups are already excited!
i’m sure we’ll do something worth photographing this weekend, so maybe more pics later! π
nothin’ much
not much new goin’ on here at our place! just some trips to home depot, pug birthdays, and various other events. eric worked on the basement again this weekend, while i made seitan and the pugs played.
here are some very tasty cuppers i made several weeks ago. they’re vegan chocolate cuppers with chocolate frosting and toasted hazelnuts…eric gobbled them up because they tasted like rochets. next time i’ll try to get even closer to a real rochet by putting a hazelnut inside!

this week i also made some toys for leia, who celebrated her very 1st birthday! π i also made her a hello kitty bed! here are jabba and leia at leia’s tinker bell themed bash!

for more party pics (and to see the bed i made) go to jabba’s page!
several weeks ago i finally made a cover for our ottoman. here is leia enjoying it, with her favorite nylabone.

and i’m sure eric will share some photos of his project eventually, since he’s restricting *my* sharing of them.
and that’s about it! π
