well, i finally got on at a temp agency yesterday. however, i’m not sure how much work i’ll get out of them. i have another interview today so we’ll see how things go.

here are some pics from coney island. it was alot of fun 🙂

nathan\'s

i saw this place on the Food channel and knew i had to go there. i guess they are *the* hot dogs.

my food

this is my food. i had never had a real hot dog before so i decided to try it. it had sourkraut, grilled onions, and mustard on it (that’s how you’re supposed to eat them in ny). the toppings were surprisingly good, but the hot dog was gross. it was juicy inside. i think i’ll stick to veggie hot dogs, at least now i know!

wheel

here is the 85 year-old wheel. it has never had any accidents in its history, which is nice. what’s really neat is that the white cars are stationary and the colored cars swing out and in. pretty scary at first, but lost of fun. 🙂

coney

this is coney island from the peir. it is actually bigger than the picture portrays.

No time.

We need more people to come and visit us here–whenever people visit, the weather turns really nice! Then it turns miserable again. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen now that my dad has flown back to California.

Just more work, work, work today. Nothing much new and exciting. Candice had an interview with a temp agency today and has another interview for a position somewhere tomorrow. I have more work, work, work tomorrow. Yipee.

It sounded like a good idea….

On Monday night, Candice, my dad, and I took a trip to Staten Island. I thought it would be a smooth trip, but boy was I wrong. First of all, the stupid trains skipped about 5 stops through Manhatten and Brooklyn. After we got off that train to go back to downtown Manhatten, that train also skipped the stop we wanted to go to, Whitehall St–where the free Staten Island ferry leaves from. We then waited and took the same train going back the other direction, and that time it didn’t skip our Stop. So we finally made it there. The ferry is supposed to leave on an hourly schedule on the half hour starting at 9pm. We had originally tried to catch the 9:30pm ferry but by the time we tracked and back-tracked to our stop it was closer to 10:00pm. So, we waited for the 10:30pm ferry in the terminal.. Waited and waited. Then, to our surprise we hear an announcement over the intercom telling us that the 10:30pm ferry will be 10 minutes late–OK, fine 10 more minutes…that’s not too bad right? But we did need to catch a ferry back to Manhatten, so we wondered if this would make us miss our connection back, so we asked one of the security personnel and he said it was the same ferry, so there were no problems–right. We took the 25 minute ferry to Staten Island at 10:40pm. We arrived a little bit after 11:05pm. The ferry itself was enjoyable–we got a nice view of the city skyline and the Statue of Liberty at night. So we arrive in the island and expect to be able to leave right away–uh huh. We then hear another announcement disclaiming that the next ferry off the island wouldn’t be until 12:00 midnight–great. So we waited and waited until midnight, sitting in the terminal waiting for our ride back, eating snacks from the snack bar, and reading, talking, whatever to pass the time. OK. So, 12 midnight rolls around, we get on a smaller ferry with more people on it than the first–lots of noisy, noisy people. It’s midnight, and it’s louder that it is in the daytime. The ride back was nice, but loud, but we make it back to Manhatten–excellent. We then make our way back to the subway station we came from only to find out that that there are no uptown trains operating from there (which incidently is what we need to get back home.) So we go to another station, wait, and wait, and wait, and then take a different train back to Times Square, where the transfer to the train we needed originally is. So, we get to Times Square and by this time its around 1:30am or so. The noisy, annoying teenagers and 20-somethings are getting back from their night of holiday weekend partying. Then we wait, and wait, and wait, and wait for the uptown train that we should have gotten where we first started coming back at Stanwell st. Finally, around 2am our passage back to Astoria arrives in all it’s silver splendor and takes us back to the place we call home. Luckily, since my dad is here, we had a car waiting for us to save us from the additional 1-mile treck from the subway stop to our house. Finally, we got to our abode around 2:30am and promply crashed. Today, it’s Coney Island…. and we’re taking the car.

Here are some pics from our trip to Central Park–unmodified. These are the actual quality and sizes of the pictures this little camera takes (it kind of gives them a water-color look.) Enjoy!

We left Jabba at home today to go visit Central Park this afternoon. We stopped by this cafe called ‘SoHo’ for lunch and then went on to the train headed for the park. We stopped by Strawberry Fields, walked to the lake, and had a nice little tour of the surrounding areas. Meanwhilst, Jabba turning to his mischivous side, snuck into the bedroom, opened my zippered shoulder bag, took out my cookies, and gobbled them up! When we got home there were cookie crumbs all over the floor next to the bed and my bag was half-way under the bed with the zipper open. After we got home, he proceeded to throw up the cookies in the kitchen…. I guess indulgance does have its price! 😉

Today was another exciting day at work for me.. I wont go into any details, ’cause I’m too tired, but not too much really happened worth mentioning. My dad made it safely to our humble abode here in the little town of NYC. Luckily for us, he has a rental car so we can get to places we normally would be able to get to. Also, luckily for us not having a car in these wonderful times of >$3 a gallon for gas. We saw a place here today that was $3.89 for regular, and $4.19 for premium! Anyway. We had dinner at a vegetarian restaurant in Union Square called Zen Palate. It was pretty tasty. Candice wants to go again sometime.. and it’s only about 10 minutes (walk) from my work. We then struggled through evening weekend traffic and accross the river from Manhatten back into our litle ‘ole borrough of Queens. Then to bed for lack of energy to continue being awake. ::snore:: zzzzzzz…

restaurant review….

September 2, 2005 - 9:46 pm Comments Off on restaurant review….

this evening eric, aram and myself met up at zen palate for dinner. it was oh so yummy! we got zen rolls (or something like that), hot and sour soup, stickey rice (taaaassstttyyyy!), and two main dishes whose names i cannot recall. eric and i also split a pear and blueberry pie. everything there is vegetarian and vegan, which is nice. the food is SO good. eric and i will definately be going back there for dinners. it’s only a 5 minute walk from his work, which makes it handy for meetups.

well, it’s off to bed (or relaxing at least) for me! somewhere after dinner and the ride home a migrane took possession of my left temple. i took some extra strength tylenol with some diet cream soda (which, btw, has more caffeine than a coke) so it should ge gonners in another 10. toodles!
