monday, again…

July 18, 2005 - 10:27 pm 1 Comment

yes, it’s monday again and we are still homeless 🙂 we dashed over to see the progress on the apartment today. the paint was fabulous! SO much better than white. the new dishwasher was sitting in the bedroom in the box so we know it’s brand new. 🙂 all that’s left is the dishwasher, floors, and we’re ready to move in! besides some lighting fixtures. the paint is such an improvement! i won’t mention the colors in case people think it looks better than it actually is and then see a pic of it and go “oooohhh” knowingly to themselves.
we went to macy’s today to get eric some dress shoes since his are still in cali. also picked up a tie. they didn’t have the shoes i wanted, though….grrr….my feet have been KILLING me! i have to wear a different pair of shoes every day, working through the ones i have with me, to take turns which blister will get rubbed. there’s a pair of birkenstocks i want so bad and that are on sale, just like my red ones, but black, but i don’t think i should get them right now. 🙁
the weather here has been pretty warm. warm being the key word. i can’t really say it’s been *hot* because with the humidity it just always feels like you’re playing under a big blanket. for me it’s as bad as the disgusting weather in sac. i don’t like either one. at least here it gets properly cold. give me -20 in january any day of the week!
well, i’m off to bed!

laundry/garbage day

July 18, 2005 - 9:40 pm 2 Comments

You can always tell when it’s garbage day in new york city–besides the heaping piles and bags of garbage on the sidewalks, it also stinks like sewage when you walk down certain areas. lovely. at least now that we did our laundry though, our clothes don’t smell bad.

This weather here is killing me. I mean it wouldn’t be that bad if we had a car with air conditioning, but when you have to walk everywhere and take the train (thank God the subway cars are air-conditioned.) it really takes a toll on you. The underground stations are kept a nice 90-something degrees, with no air-flow at all–just stale, hot air. Even with the trains kept cool, the time between trains & between stops, and the long walks around town get ya good–you’re guaranteed to be drenched in sweat by the end of the day. And it doesn’t cool down at night. Give me the dry, 100 degree California weather any day over this. Maybe Candice and I should have come out to visit before in the dead of summer instead of springtime. 😉

I’ve got to get to bed early tonight so I can get to my interview in time tomorrow morning in Manhattan. It’s with a company called NIT Connect. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow…

apartment/jobs

Well, I have an interview lined up for tomorrow morning at 9am in Manhattan, so wish me luck. We also talked to our landlord about how the repairs were going and he said they had started painting and the floors were also being worked on, so once those are done we’ll be able to move in and get some pictures up. 🙂

summer rain

:::singing::: Ohh…. the weather outside is frightful. The 97% humidity is not delightful. And since there is no air flow, we’ll flambeau in our little borough.

As you can see I added a little weather icon thingie on the right sidebar so you can see what the weather is like over here.

yesterday

here’s some pics of us (i’m taking the pics) on our trip yesterday. it was really pretty there and the houses were amazing. too bad they’re all over a million per pop.

on train

this was on the train we caught from grand central. notice the nice display of harry potter by samantha.

on street

here we are on a street in greenwhich.

on another note, the raw food potluck was very tasty. i know it’s not eric’s thing, but the pesto stuffed ‘shrooms were SO good! as was the gazpacho and unmeatloaf.

raw conneticut.

Well.. Candice and I did some new things today. First of all… dealing with this whole raw foods thing. We had a pot-luck style lunch with about seven people–everybody brought at least one ‘raw food’ item that they had made. (Candice and I took the easy way out and bought a veggie-platter since we don’t really have our own kitchen.. yet.) All I have to say is that I don’t think I could ever live for any amount of time eating only uncooked foods. Some of the stuff was pretty good, but it would have been a lot better if I could just put it in the microwave!

Anyway. Another interesting thing we did today was to visit the state of Conneticut. Neither of us had ever been there before.. and in fact, I had never even considered ever visiting Conneticut before today. We took a commuter rail train out of grand central station and in about an hour we were in Conneticut. The main reason we went was because this guy that Samantha used to work with lives there and is moving to Indiana. He has a huge house and is practically giving away most of the large furniture in his house. So we went to go check it out to see if there was anything good there that we wanted. It was a fun experience–he picked us up from the train station and gave us a tour of the surrounding area. I do have to say it is a beautiful state with magnificiently huge, new houses everywhere–it was quite a contrast from New York City. Anyway… that’s all for now.

denied.

d’oh. I am so dissapointed. I just had to turn down what looked like a pretty good job offer just because I don’t have a car. that sucks. There’s this pretty cool web site called Hopstop that is like MapQuest for the subway here in New York. So, I checked this place out and it would take almost two hours to get there by the subway and walking–and it’s only about 5 miles away from our new apartment. 🙁

look. watch!

July 15, 2005 - 10:14 pm Comments Off on look. watch!

oh! BTW. I took matters into my own hands (as I do on occasion with broken things.) I took my watch apart (and in doing so probably voiding any other warranty it had on it) and fixed those stupid buttons. I can once again read the news and check the weather while I’m waiting for the next train to come on the subway. hurrah! i love my watch. it works great in new york. check it out: Suunto n3i
