Transit Strike

December 20, 2005 - 12:15 pm 2 Comments

I looks like I’m going to have to stay home today. There is a massive transit strike going on right now between the MTA and the Transit Union. Negotiations did not allow them to come to terms by the strike deadline of midnight last night. I forgot about that this morning (well, for one thing I went to bed before midnight last night) and was walking to the subway station in 25 degree weather when Candice called me and told me that indeed that were striking and the subways and buses were not running. Since my work is about 6 miles away (in Manhattan) there is very small possibility that I could get there in any timely manner–especialy if you consider the 7 million other people I’d have to fight with who are in the same predicament. Luckily for me, my job can be done through telecommuting, so that’s what it looks like I’ll be doing today (and for however long the strike lasts.) I might actually not have to go in to work on my Birthday/Anniversary. Hurrah! 🙂

Birthdaze

Well, it’s that time of year again–yeah, it’s Christmas time/the holiday season too, but that’s not really what I meant. What I was really thinking of is that there are tons of birthdays in December. My dad’s birthday is December 2, today (the 19th) bears special significance for my mom and friend, Kit Kohler. My birthday comes up on the 21st and my sister’s birthday is on the 22nd! Let’s see.. even people that I haven’t talk to in ages have birthdays in this month… Tim Webster is on the 10th I believe; Pamela Guynn on the 17th or 18th, I think; Brook McGuiness (sp?) on the 20th; even, Jessica from Canada had a birthday on the 21st of this month–who incidently is the only person I’ve ever met who was born on the same day as me, December 21, 1980.

No White Christmas.. so far at least.

Another weekend has passed. I wish I had more interesting things to say, but unfortunately all I did was relax at home this weekend for the most part. It warmed up to the 40s this weekend, so just about all of the snow melted, so we’ll see if we get a white Chritmas after all.

We took Jabba to the Vet on Saturday and got his combo distemperment/hepetitus shot and a general check-up. He has an infection in his left ear that we have some medicine for. We have to trick him with crumbled treats in his bowl to get him to sit still long enough for us to put the medicine in his ears–poor guy. On Saturday night we watched Midnight Cowboy.

Candice and I took a stroll to Astoria Park with Jabba today. We had never been before, even though it’s only about 2 miles from our house. It’s amazing how far away places can seem when you don’t have a car and have to make it everywhere by foot. We stopped by Matt & Samantha’s place and chatted with them for a while before making our way back home to watch some TV (and I snuck in a couple games of Half Life 2.) Even though I’ve had that game for over a year, I still have not completed it yet. 🙁

too coo…

this site is so cool. it is an exhibition of color photos of the depression era thru the preparations for ww2. really interesting! bound for glory: america in color, 1939-1942.

yeah yeah…there are alot of pictures of jabba, but he’s so cute! here are some more to dazzle and delight you 😉

here’s the sleepy little guy cuddling up on the couch.

ahhh! dead homer! jabba has adopted my old homer simpson slippers as his new toy. he’ll stick his head in the opening (homer’s mouth) and throw it across the room and then pounce on it, severely punishing homer for getting away.

Sick Day.

ep: I musta caught a cold or something this past weekend. On Sunday afternoon my throat started to itch, and by the evening, I started to get body aches and a sore throat. I slept for about 10 hours last night, but not even that could help me feel good enough to go to work this morning. 🙁 I rested some more during the day, then I realized that my California driver’s license is set to expire in 9 days and I needed to go to a New York DMV and get a new one. The DMV here closes it’s doors at 4pm (yes, 4pm!) so I figured today was as good as any day (despite feeling under the weather) to go down there–especially since I work until 6pm most days during the week and could never make it there in time. After being robbed for $42.50, I was able to get my temporary piece of paper pretending to be my license until some 3 weeks from now when my real one comes in the mail. [[Scratches that one off my to-do list.]] Now for a restful evening and another early bed-time…

little trouble maker!

just thought this pic was cute. jabba keeps sniffing the tree and all the ornaments he can get his nose on. the other day when i was gone, he ate a whole candy cane, wrapper and all. this pic is of him contemplating the next move in his attempt to get at his girlfriend, the little pink toy pug. he loves to tear around the house viciously ripping her head off.
