Upgrades…

February 11, 2006 - 5:31 pm 1 Comment

I just signed up with a new hosting company, Bluehost. They’ve gotten rave reviews on many sites and the price isn’t bad either, $6.95 a month for 10GB of space, 250GB/month xfer and much more. Anyway… for now, please try to use http://www.ericperez.com to get to our blog, as the other half-dozen domain names that we have pointing here (thezereps.com, etc.) may or may not work reliably in the coming weeks during the migration to the new servers. Thanks!

UPDATE: Nevermind… all the domains should be working fine.. thank goodness for iframes and tricksy DNS settings.

many pictures about nothing…

as i’m writting this i have a little (well, actually, he’s rather on the *large* side) puggy decimating the tail of his stuffed snake. i hope it holds out ’till i’m done here. *then* i’ll confiscate it like the elementary school teacher that i am.

oh, and thank you to eric for posting pics of his work, too. i would post pics of mine, but you can just to go the website and see me work, so it kind of defeats the purpose….

ooh, before i forget, i wanted to tell kit and jakki from thejakkit that i totally agree with their summation of ‘battlestar galactica’. i got sucked in this week with an all day marathon of season 2. boy oh boy is that good watchin’! it’s like ’24’ mixed with ‘star wars’ mixed with some other show, but i forgot…brain fart, sorry.

here’s a bunch of pictures of various domestic happenings lately. i swear…we’ll get an album soon!

(below) jabba nesting in his favorite spot in the whole house..my pillow! it would bug me, but i know he’s clean and cuddly, so i can’t refuse. i am a weak, helpless jellyfish when it comes to cuteness.

yes, that is what you think it is. chocolate fudge diet soda. i couldn’t help it. is it just me, or is the packaging verging a bit too much on the ’80s side? ::shrug::

good boy! who’s my big boy?! what a good boy…..i made sugar cookes and used jabba’s bone-shaped cookie cutter….mmmmm mmmm!

he’s a homer maniac! jabba loves my old slipper….eric likes teasing jabba with it almost as much as jabba loves chewing on it.

it’s darth zerep and jabba the pug!

Morning commute/2600 meeting.

Looks like we’re a little behind on the blogging… writing today about stuff that happened 2 days ago, but oh well..

Here are two pictures that I took on Friday morning –

A shot of the street on my way to work, near the subway stop:

This is a view from the inside of the office I work in:

After work on Friday, I decided to check out the Manhattan 2600 meeting. I’ve been wanting to go to one for many years, just to check it out (they have them in California too–I made it to one meeting once for like 20 minutes at the downtown mall in Sac, but that didn’t really count.) I figured the metting in Manhattan would be bigger and have a lot more stuff going on.

What I saw was an interesting hodge-podge of people—pimply-faced 16 year-olds who are hardly even noteworthy, leftovers from the good-ole days in the 70s and 80s, the ‘core’ group that included the editor-in-chief, the author of the Kismet wiresless sniffing tool, and various organizers of the upcoming HOPE conference. And then there were guys like me who are just into the latest technology, like to solve other people’s computer problems, and who don’t know evertything, but can definitely talk the talk. The meeting was a lot more informal than I expected–there wasn’t any schedule or speaker or anything, but it was good enough that I think I’ll go again next month.

The Daily Show

Well, seeings as it’s now Friday (thank goodness!) it’s seems a little late to be writing about what we did on Wednesday, but it was so fun that I think it might just be worth it. (I had expected Candice to write something about it by now, but we’ve both been very busy lately.) Anyway, without further adieu.. Wednesday:

I ditched work at 4 o’clock on Wednesday (with permission!) I hurried over to Daily Show Studios on 11th Ave and 51st in Manhattan. I met Candice there around 4:45pm and there were already about 200+ people in line. We waited in line until about 6pm until we were finally admitted inside to be part of the studio audience for The Daily Show!! My two word summary: so funny.

Apparently, Jon Stewart had a stomach flu or something, so it took a little longer than usual to start the show, but there was a pretty funny stand-up guy keeping the audience entertained during the waiting period. The set was pretty small–only about 250 seats. It was very intimate–every seat in the house had a great view. I took 3 pictures with my camera, but unfortunately none of them turned out. 🙁 Stomach flu or not, Jon Stewart is just a genuinely funny guy–there’s no way around that. And since Bush had just given his ‘state of the union address’, there was plenty of fresh material to gleen from.

After the show was over, we walk the 3/4 of a mile or so back to the subway and stopped by an empanada restaurant called ‘Empanada Mama’ for a light dinner and a bathroom break. We made our way home around 8–our poor puppy had been alone all day, but he’s he always a very good puppy; he waited until we came home that evening and took him out to go potty (I thought he was going to explode when I took him out he had to go so bad!)

New digi-camera for blogging.

Well.. my $8 mini digital camera didn’t work out so well, so Janiece got me another camera that’s small enough to fit in my book bag. (Thanks!) It’s 1.3 megapixel, but I have it set to the lowest res 640×480 (I shrink all the pics down to 320×240.)

Here’s a sample picture… this is the building that I work at in Manhattan on Broadway:

Our office is on the 2nd story (see the big, arched windows? that’s me right there.)

More pictures to come soon…

ode to mickey

January 29, 2006 - 8:41 pm Comments Off on ode to mickey

as some of you are already aware, jabba has a cousin, mickey. jabba wanted to dedicate a post to mickey since he misses him so much (since certain people don’t want to drive over and visit us, you know who you are… ;)).

here is a current picture of mickey..isn’t he a stud? posing with his paw on a rock like he’s posing for ‘play pug’ or something…

mickey and jabba go way back…all the way back to may! that’s like 5 dog years! here’s mickey and jabba when they were both younger.

as soon as they met, they knew they’d be buddies….look how nice they’re sharing 😉

and finally, we’ll end on a picture of mickey when he was still little. this pic was taken after a good round of pug wrestling, ending with both dogs lying prone on the floor, panting, too worn out to stand.

thursday puppy

as i was sitting on the couch, making a doctor’s appointment, i realized that jabba’s strikingly handsome mug hadn’t graced the blog in a couple days. so, i am now pleased to give you…..jabba!

this is jabba’s oldest toy, which had been in the “hospital” (aka on top of the ‘fridge) for a while. i did a bunch of surgeries yesterday and his bunny was among the wounded. looks like he’s lost his ear and part of his cranium.

i found these at the new little organic food market today and couldn’t hold myself back. as soon as i say the words “you want a treat, jabba?” he jumps to attention (even from a dead sleep) and runs in the kitchen. hehe 🙂

here’s my tip can from work. much excitement, much excitement……

Slow week…

January 25, 2006 - 4:23 pm 1 Comment

Not much has happened this week, so the bloggin’s been pretty slow. Mostly just work.. and more work. Same thing day in and day out. I can’t wait until it’s not dark after I get done with work. Then maybe I can walk somewhere or see something before getting on the subway to go home–or maybe Candice and I could go walk somewhere, or take our puppy to the park!

I’m going to be getting a new digital camera soon. It’s not super-duper camera, but it’s compact and that’s all I care about–it will fit in my bag easily! (Thanks Janiece! I hope Al’s computer is still working better.) Besides, I’m just going to use it for pictures for the blog and those are only 320×240 pixels anyway! Expect more pictures of Manhattan in the future…
