‘bama baby!

July 31, 2008 - 4:47 pm 2 Comments

unfortunately we don’t have any pics from the good times we had with kit and jakki, but the good times, they did happen. 🙂

we hope everybody’s stayin’ cool. colorado is in the middle of a heat wave right now, so i think this weekend’s pug meetup is off the agenda.

anybody want to donate a jacuzzi? 😉

more cute baby pictures

yes, we do more than take cute pictures of the little fellow, but you’d probably rather look at baby photos than than hear tell of our (boring) events. 🙂

asleep in the peanut shell:

late night reading:

wait dad, one more page:

like scarface with a fine cigar, arthur, too, enjoys a fine bath, but with a binky:

in other news, we’re getting more company this weekend and we look forward to introducing them to the world of stinky diapers, projectile spit-up and inconsolable crying. 🙂

hot potato!

July 16, 2008 - 4:57 pm Comments Off on hot potato!

it’s hot. really hot. i’m already fantasizing about fall already.

in other news, arthur had his 4 month doctor’s visit yesterday! 😀 he weighs 15.5 pounds and is 25 inches long! 🙂 poor little fellow also recieved 4 vaccinations and a fifth one by mouth. he had a snoopy bandage on each chubby little leg, and he slept most of the afternoon and evening away. but he did stay awake long enough to help me bake some herbed olive oil bread and a peach nectarine berry galette!

see the flour on his face?

the pups also helped by “cleaning” up the bowl that had the fruit in it. 🙂 leia takes her job as dishwasher very seriously.

now that arthur can hold his head up by himself, we got him a little jumparoo to play in. if you click on the picture, it’ll direct you to the general album. the one with all the new pics is labeled ‘july’. 😀

misc goings on

what have we been up to lately? not much! 🙂

eric’s been pulling weeds, the pups have been sleeping, arthur’s growing, and i’m washing bottles all the time! 😀 well, there’s a bit more to things than that, but that’s the short story.

all of eric’s hard work in the garden is starting to pay off…i’ve started using some of the herbs that are flourishing. the dill makes great potato salad and the mint makes tasty cool mint tea.

the pups are certainly doing more than sleeping and getting into trouble. they help me mow the lawn every sunday morning and leia likes to assist eric in weeding and watering.

and yes, i wash bottles a lot. we also decided to cancel the diaper service, mainly due to the fact that it was a bit expensive once all of our gift certificates ran out. 😉 but it was great to have while arthur was going through 80 diapers a week! now that things are more manageable, i’ve been able to keep him cloth diapers by washing them at home. it’s affordable and easy and arthur’s happy, so i’m happy. 🙂

oh! we’ve had visitors, too! eric’s mom came out this past weekend to spend some quality time with arthur and us! 🙂 we’re also hoping to get more guests this month and next, too.

anyhoo, i’m going to go play with the little fellow in his play gym. there is a new album with cute arthur pics here….under “misc june” i think.

Three-Year Blog Anniversary

July 3, 2008 - 5:09 pm 1 Comment

Today marks the three-year anniversary of our blog! :)  Our first post was on July 3, 2005. We started the blog to be a way for people to track our progress on our big roadtrip from California to New York City.

NYC Trip send-off

Since then, we spent 18 very fun months in New York, although NYC proved to be a pretty expensive place to live, and not really a place we wanted to start a family, so in December 2006, we took another big roadtrip from New York to Boulder, Colorado where we still are today.

Other major events include buying a house, getting a second dog (Leia), and finally having our first baby!

Hope to see you around in another 3 years. ttfn.

farmer eric

if you’re wondering why i’ve been the one posting lately, it’s because eric has been out in the yard all the time. why has he been out in the yard? it’s not because he’s constantly on poo patrol. he’s the one planting the garden this year! since arthur is too small to romp around the yard i’ve been staying inside with him, instead of doing the gardening like i did last year. so eric has been elbow deep in mud and fertilizer.

here are the plants that we got from the boulder county water conservation group (or something along those lines), they are supposedly tailored to our climate. and they will grow to fill the space more, btw.

this is the center of our herb bed. some things that are growing in this picture and on the sides that aren’t shown are: tyme, basil, lemon mint, rosemary, dill and some others i can’t remember. i also have some herbs potted on the gazebo ledges.

the main garden is up top, by the far fence. it looks a little sparse now, but that’s just because the tomatoes haven’t gotten their big growth spurt and things like squash, pumpkin and watermelon haven’t gotten big yet. the plants with the big round leaves are brussel sprouts, there’s some strawberries in the picture, onions, garlic, tomatoes, squash, etc.

next year we are definitely going to build a series of boxes up there and fill them with real dirt. the soil we have here is so alkali that eric was surprised that i got anything to grow last year. it’s really crummy. and we’d really like to start composting, but we have a large sneaking suspicion that our hoa would not approve, so i’m trying to talk eric into one of the small, indoor compost units (i’m not up for a bucket and worms).

oh, and here is the longmont farmer’s market. it’s not nearly as big as the boulder one, but it’s a whole lot closer, thus saving us a ton on gas. and it’s less crowded, the boulder one can be a little crazy.

and what post would be complete without a picture of arthur? here he is in the ‘bumbo’ chair i got him. it supports him using his own body weight and is supposed to help strengthen his tummy, back, and neck muscles. he’s still getting used to it. (and notice the cute mr. roboto shirt i embroidered for him…hehe)

what of the pups? well, they’ve been getting a lot of outdoor time helping eric garden, and lazing around the house. they don’t have another pug meetup until next month. eric and i are seriously considering starting up a longmont meetup so we don’t have to drive to boulder. we’ll see! 😀

a few pictures

ok, well we forgot the camera in the car when we were at the pug meetup last weekend. we were a hurried and late because there were monster slow-downs on the way to boulder, thanks to some weekend road paving. 🙁 but a great time was had by all! there were lots of puggies for jabba and leia to play with, and lots of black puggies, too, which were super cute. jabba got into the games by barking with his signature high-pitched yelp, and leia was trotting around following everybody. little missy also got an attitude when we wanted to put her leash back on and she kept dodging us…thankfully i was stocked with some tweats in my pocket and we lured her back. arthur was a good little fellow for the meetup, too. i had him in the bjorn and he slept most of the time. he got to meet another little baby who was a month older than him, too.

anyhoo….here are a few pictures i’ve taken over the last few weeks.

on our way to the ‘boulder creek festival’

some chill time in the crib

with his new lambie that makes soothing sounds for him to sleep with

looking very sweet

he has also mastered the art of sucking on his fingers and fist. sometimes he gags himself, but he’s getting better!

his bib has turned into an after dinner mint

looking quite pensive

the little fellow is all swaddled and asleep in his swing right now, but he’s turning into quite an active little guy. he is starting to play with his toys more and he loves the kissing game i play with him where i smooch him all over.

we’re looking forward to a nice father’s day weekend, too. i made eric some cuppers to take to work (vegan dark chocolate stout, to be exact) and i think we’re going to have a bbq on our new grill (our charcoal one i got last year gave up the ghost…too much wind). well, ‘grill’….it’s the george foreman outdoor patio grill….hey..it’s the same price as those cheapie charcoal grills, plus it won’t spill hot coals on arthur or the pups if it tips over. and there’s no cleanup! i hated dealing with ash. bleh. and i’m not enough of a red-blooded american, apparently, to want a 5,000 sq. inch propane monstrosity to cook our veggie burgers and corn on. 😉

and let’s hope they get that fire in paradise under control! my family made an escape last night to a hotel in oroville.

have a super father’s day weekend everybody!

tidbits

as i’m sure you all saw from the news, we’ve had some pretty crazy weather here in colorado. thankfully we were spared the ordeal of dealing with serious property damage, etc. but like i said in the livechat, i did have to spend some time in the basement.

thursday was the really crazy weather day here. i usually don’t watch local news channels, or tv in general, before noon so i had no idea about the tornado watch that was in effect. it started to get really stormy out, then really windy, then we got pounded by hail. the hail started off the size of popcorn kernels, then got to about an inch, inch and a half in diameter. it was pounding down at an angle and i was pretty worried about our windows. so after about 30 minutes of crazy pounding and wind, it let up enough for me to go outside and take the top off the gazebo, that’s when i hard the tornado sirens. the hail was too loud to hear them from inside the house, to i went back inside, threw some bottled water down the stairs, put arthur in the baby bjorn, and got the dogs on leashes then went downstairs to monitor things on my laptop. 🙂

anyhoo…we were lucky! same for yesterday, too…there were a couple more touch downs east of us again.

moving to a different topic… 🙂 now that summer is here i’ve started to wear sunscreen every day again! bleh! but here’s a site that lists nearly every single sunscreen made and rates the health risk of each, since sunscreen can have some pretty nasty ingredients. it’s the cosmetic safety database. i recommend you go and look at your sunscreen to check it out!
