here’s some pics of us (i’m taking the pics) on our trip yesterday. it was really pretty there and the houses were amazing. too bad they’re all over a million per pop.

this was on the train we caught from grand central. notice the nice display of harry potter by samantha.

here we are on a street in greenwhich.
on another note, the raw food potluck was very tasty. i know it’s not eric’s thing, but the pesto stuffed ‘shrooms were SO good! as was the gazpacho and unmeatloaf.

Well.. Candice and I did some new things today. First of all… dealing with this whole raw foods thing. We had a pot-luck style lunch with about seven people–everybody brought at least one ‘raw food’ item that they had made. (Candice and I took the easy way out and bought a veggie-platter since we don’t really have our own kitchen.. yet.) All I have to say is that I don’t think I could ever live for any amount of time eating only uncooked foods. Some of the stuff was pretty good, but it would have been a lot better if I could just put it in the microwave!
Anyway. Another interesting thing we did today was to visit the state of Conneticut. Neither of us had ever been there before.. and in fact, I had never even considered ever visiting Conneticut before today. We took a commuter rail train out of grand central station and in about an hour we were in Conneticut. The main reason we went was because this guy that Samantha used to work with lives there and is moving to Indiana. He has a huge house and is practically giving away most of the large furniture in his house. So we went to go check it out to see if there was anything good there that we wanted. It was a fun experience–he picked us up from the train station and gave us a tour of the surrounding area. I do have to say it is a beautiful state with magnificiently huge, new houses everywhere–it was quite a contrast from New York City. Anyway… that’s all for now.

d’oh. I am so dissapointed. I just had to turn down what looked like a pretty good job offer just because I don’t have a car. that sucks. There’s this pretty cool web site called Hopstop that is like MapQuest for the subway here in New York. So, I checked this place out and it would take almost two hours to get there by the subway and walking–and it’s only about 5 miles away from our new apartment. 🙁

oh! BTW. I took matters into my own hands (as I do on occasion with broken things.) I took my watch apart (and in doing so probably voiding any other warranty it had on it) and fixed those stupid buttons. I can once again read the news and check the weather while I’m waiting for the next train to come on the subway. hurrah! i love my watch. it works great in new york. check it out: Suunto n3i

We went and visited our new place again today (we’re still staying with friendss ’cause the carpet is getting torn out and new wood floors put in along with a fresh coat of paint.) It was pretty depressing because it still looks pretty dumpy (they just started tearing the carpet out.) One thing I don’t like about ‘the city’ is everything is old… like the buildings. I know.. I know.. most people love them. It gives the city character . blah. blah. I just think they stink and the architechs were on drugs when they designed them–you wouldn’t believe some of the designs of some of the buildings here. they aren’t practical at all. Anyway. Now I’m ranting.
One thing that’s frustrating is that we are stuck in a lot of catch-22 situations. Like for instance, to get a NY driver’s license–we have to bring our old ones in, bring our SSN cards, a credit card, passport AND our mariage certificate (for security reasons.) Some of the jobs I’m applying for require a valid NY driver’s license, and in order to sign up for simple things like a library card, you need an ID with your current address… like a NY driver’s license, but wait.. we can’t even get mail at our new address yet because the carpet is still being done. See what I mean? I hope I’m not being to depressing here.. we’re actually doing quite well. I just hate not having a job. 🙁 and like Candice mentioned before, the humidity makes you want to curl up in a ball and fall off the face of the planet–it just gets under your skin. Today it was like 85% humidity and high of 91 degrees. Try walking around all day in that. sheez.

holy crap. i heel like i’m in a sauna when i start to walk anywhere outside. i sweat *so* much….it’s weird…
well, yesterday was fun, eventhough eric got ripped off. we went to h&m and got some clothes. as much as eric complained about the loud music in the store he still spent like 45 minutes trying clothes on and he still bought more things than i did. 🙂 i think he secretly loves to go clothes shopping for himself. 😉 as for me, i love h&m because the clothes all fit so good and they’re super cute and they’re cheap!
today we visited jabba again. we have a schedule. noon and 8, every day. we miss him alot and want to get our place so we can get him back!
we’re going to our apartment today to measure windows and doors (not sure why, but eric wants to). as soon as our landlord gives us a definitive date, we’ll order a sofa, bed, matress, table and chairs from ikea, and possibly a rug or two. i have to order by phone because the individual stores always run out of the matress we want. same with the couch.
omg…we went to the mercado today and totally loaded up on fruit and veggies, since i’m on the raw foods thing. i got everything i wanted, figs, tomatoes, plums, grapes, peaches, avacadoes, and *lots* of other stuff and it only came to $19! it would have cost *at least* 30 at safeway….it was so cheap! 🙂
oh yeah, the raw foods thing is going great. i really like it so far. i don’t feel lathargic or anything and i’m getting all my food groups and vitamins, too.
toodle-loo…

Weellll.. I have a bone to pick with compusa. my stupid watch.. correction. my stupid $200 watch has two faulty buttons on it. OK. it’s not that bad right? I bought the extended warranty from compusa. I can take it back and exchange it for a new one. right? hah. unfortunately for me… their entire stock for the whole US apparently is sold out because the normal price for this watch is $300 and they we’re selling it for $200. so, they told me I’m basically up a creek as far as their warranty goes. So that means I’m basically stuck with the manufacturers warranty and will probably have to send it in somewhere to get it repaired. greeeeaaattt.
Well, on another note. Candice and I forgot our dress clothes in Cali… (they’re in a box somewhere.) So, we went to this department store in manhattan called h&m to buy some clothes for interviews, etc. Not much new info about our apartment… the landlord is still taking bids for the paint/new wood floors, so it’s just more delays for us before we can move into our new place. 🙁

geez…eric sounded like he needs prozac in his last post. things aren’t really all that bad by a long shot. we’re just waiting for the construction to be started/finished on our apartment and there’s not a whole lot we can do about it in the mean time. no big deal. jabba plays all day long at Lorrie’s place. there’s not much we can do ’till we move in so we’re just in limbo for a while, which isn’t too bad…at least we found an apartment, have a place to stay, and our puppy is happy. 🙂
today is day 2.5 of my raw foods diet. i like it so far. to be honest, it’s too hot here to eat anyway so i don’t feel like i’m sacrificing much. i can eat as much as i want so i don’t get hungry too often. last night i had these pesto stuffed mushrooms that were SO good!
anyhoo…i think we’re going to go into compusa today and h&m. we don’t have any interviewing clothes since all our boxes are still 3k miles away.
toodles!
